# Long list of candidate paper directions (parking lot)

These are the directions we did **not** select for this 12-month round. They are kept here so they don't fall out of memory and can be picked up next quarter or by future collaborators.

Selection criteria for this round were:
1. Anchored to a written invitation from Jeff (existing paper to extend, "under development" project to build, or published framework to operationalize).
2. Spans at least one of: hardware, curriculum, HCI/AI.
3. Achievable as first author with mentor-only feedback.
4. Pairs naturally with a high-production-value YouTube companion video.

## C4. Image Morphs & Warps as a CS1 → Linear Algebra Onramp
**Why interesting.** The Math 2BL doc lists this as a project but with no academic paper. Affine and projective transforms are the "first contact" with matrices for many CS students.
**Likely contribution.** A web-native (no install) image-warping lab + a validated affine-transform fluency rubric.
**Why deferred.** Less novel than P2/P3 — the core ideas are well-trodden in computer graphics education. Better as a side project for the YouTube channel.

## C5. Eigenfaces Lab Pipeline + an SVD Intuition Instrument
**Why interesting.** Eigenfaces is a classical SVD demo and Jeff lists it. The contribution would be a validated pre/post instrument measuring SVD intuition.
**Likely contribution.** Free Python/JS Eigenfaces lab + a 12-item validated instrument.
**Why deferred.** The instrument design is a paper in its own right and would compete for attention with P2's NNML instrument. Revisit after P2 is submitted.

## C6. P-Block 2.0 — Sub-$15 Bench Power Supply
**Why interesting.** The P-block is the binding-constraint enabler of LANA. A redesign that drops cost in half would enable adoption at high schools.
**Likely contribution.** Engineering report — schematics, BOM, safety review, classroom test data.
**Why deferred.** This is engineering, not learning sciences. Better fit for an electrical engineering co-author or for Jeff to lead with Henry as second author. Park.

## C7. Computer Graphics & 3D Animations Project (also "under development")
**Why interesting.** Literally listed as "under development" in the Math 2BL doc, and naturally pairs with the Manim animation skills Henry will build for the companion videos.
**Likely contribution.** A Manim-based lab where students implement the rotation/projection/perspective pipeline themselves — turning the YouTube animation toolchain into the curriculum.
**Why deferred.** Strong second-quarter pickup. Will reuse all the Manim infrastructure built for the P1/P2 videos. Plan to start in month 6 if P1 is on track.

## Future-quarter candidate criteria
When picking from the parking lot, ask:
1. Is the prior paper still un-extended?
2. Has Jeff made any new noises about this in the deliverables doc updates?
3. Does it reuse infrastructure already built (Manim pipeline, audit rubric, IRB protocol)?
4. Does it move Henry's PhD application narrative forward?

## Things explicitly *not* on this list
- Anything that requires grant funding
- Anything that requires more than 10 minutes/week of Jeff's time
- Pure-math papers (Henry's lane is applied + education, not pure)
- Replication studies of well-replicated work
